An emotional custody hearing involving Afrobeats star, Davido and Sophia Momodu took place at a Lagos High Court, with the singer later taking to X to express anger and heartbreak over references to his late son during cross-examination.

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, shared a screenshot of a strongly worded message in which he accused a lawyer in the courtroom, @abelachukwu, of raising the issue of his deceased child during proceedings.

In the post, he wrote that he had “disgraced” the lawyer in court and was “teaching you your work”, but became upset when his late son was mentioned.

“Like I said in the courtroom I pray you never go through what me and my wife have gone through ever,” he wrote. “You are a wicked human being. You are not learned.”

The singer also addressed public reactions to the hearing, insisting that the matter was not about victory.

“I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody,” he stated. “Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade … so I don’t know why some pple r celebrating.. there’s nothing to celebrate.”

Davido suggested he had decided to withdraw the case after the courtroom exchange.

“I’ve decided to drop the case because when I was spanking that lawyer in the court room … she would get so frustrated … until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON! THATS A NO NO! Lowest blow!”

He added: “My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her … let’s move on. One love.”

Davido and his wife, Chioma Rowland, lost their son in 2022, a tragedy that drew widespread sympathy from fans and fellow artistes across Nigeria and beyond.

The mention of the child during the custody proceedings appears to have reopened deep emotional wounds for the singer.

Amid speculation about his movements following the hearing, Davido indicated he had returned to the United States.

Responding to a fan who advised him to go back to his wife in America, he wrote: “I Dey my couch for ATL guy lol,” suggesting he was already in Atlanta.

The custody case centres on his daughter, Imade, whom he shares with Sophia Momodu. While legal details of the proceedings were not immediately available, Davido’s posts indicate that he sought joint custody rather than sole parental control.

The singer’s comments have triggered widespread debate online, with supporters expressing sympathy over the courtroom episode and urging restraint from all parties involved.

Meanwhile, the lawyer Davido referenced, whose real name is Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, has not publicly responded as of the time of this report.
