The Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has issued a public statement addressing recent allegations that some employees operate a blending plant in Malta.
Kyari, in a statement he shared on his X handle, said the clarification became necessary following numerous inquiries from family members, friends, and associates.
The President of the Dangote Group, owners of the Dangote Refinery, Aliko Dangote, claimed in an interview that some NNPCL workers have established a blending plant in Malta, allegedly hindering the procurement of locally produced petroleum products.
Kyari categorically denied any involvement in such activities, stating, “I do not own or operate any business directly or by proxy anywhere in the world, with the exception of a local mini Agric venture. Furthermore, I am not aware of any NNPC employee who owns or operates a blending plant in Malta or elsewhere.”
He emphasised that a blending plant in Malta or any part of the world has no impact on NNPCL’s business operations and strategic actions.
“To reinforce this point, the NNPC has committed to applying its compliance sanction grid to any employee found to be involved in such activities, urging that any implicated individuals be publicly identified and reported to relevant government security agencies due to the serious implications for national energy security,” he said.
