Ex-president Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu appears to have angered many Nigerians by his latest comment on the violence that overtook the #EndSARS protests after it was hijacked by hired thugs.

The protests, which was organised by the youths to express their displeasure with cases of police brutality and extortion, had gone on peaceful across the country for two weeks until it was hijacked by violence suspected to have been orchestrated by government agents and others who took advantage of the situation to settle political vendetta.

But in a tweet today, Buhari complained about his perceived biased media coverage of the protests, especially by some notable foreign media organisations.

The President specifically noted that the coverage by these media did not pay sufficient attention to the attacks on security agents and the burning of government’s property during the protests.

His tweet reads, “It must be said that foreign press coverage of the ENDSARS violence was not balanced, especially from CNN and BBC. I was disgusted by the coverage, which did not give attention to the policemen that were killed, the stations that were burnt, and prisons that were opened.”

The tweet has however failed to elicit any positive reaction, as none of the over 6000 people who have responded to it had a complimentary word for the President.

Same goes for the over 5000 responses via quote tweets, all of which condemned Buhari’s tweet.
