Nigerians Face Fresh Bloodshed in S/Africa Tomorrow, FG

South Africans are set to resume another round of xenophobic attacks against Nigerians from tomorrow.

Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Diaspora Affairs, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed this, on Tuesday, in Abuja,

She said there was credible information that more attacks were being planned for Wednesday and Thursday.

She renewed Nigeria’s call on the South African government to take “decisive and definite measures” to protect Nigerian citizens and other Africans in South Africa.

Dabiri-Erewa also urged the African Union to step in to stop the spate of “xenophobic attacks” on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa.

She said there was a need for the continental body to “intervene urgently,” claiming that in the last two years “about 116” Nigerians had been killed, including 20 last year.

“This is unacceptable to the people and government of Nigeria,” Dabiri-Erewa, said in an emailed statement to AFP.

According to the Nigerian Union in South Africa, there are about 800,000 Nigerians in South Africa, many of them living in Johannesburg.

The community was hit badly by the wave of xenophobic violence that hit the country in April 2015 but South African police said only seven Nigerians died.

An independent watchdog has said 640 people died from police brutality or in custody in South Africa.

Dabiri-Erewa complained that over 116 Nigerians were killed within two years in South Africa. She said 63 per cent of the extrajudicial killings were carried out by the police.

Dabiri-Erewa had, two weeks ago, met with the South African High Commissioner in Nigeria, Lulu Aaron-Mnguni, on the killing of Nigerians in his country who promised to investigate the matter.

“We have lost 116 Nigerians in the last two years and, in 2016 alone, about 20 were killed. This is unacceptable to the people and Government of Nigeria,” she told Aaron-Mnguni.

  • If fellow blacks can be attacking blacks in South Africa, that means things have gone from bad to worse.
Nigerians are travelling to every part of the world in search of greener pastures due to the years of destruction done to our nation's economy by the military caliphate in agbada and the ruthless corrupt politicians. A typical example of the decadence is the amount being recovered daily from these treachery looters in our midst. They steal from the poor to oppress the poor. It will come to a stage when after being chased to the wall, the poor masses will have no other alternative than to strike back.
