A Nigerian woman has been targeted in a suspected hate crime in the U.S.
The incident, reportedly, happened overnight, on Sunday, in a northeast Nampa subdivision, in the state of Idaho.
The unidentified victim, a longtime resident of the town, came out, late Monday morning, to discover someone had dumped white paint over her Toyota RAV4 and crudely scrawled “Go Back” in paint on one of the windows.
A spokesman for the Nampa Police, Sgt. Tim Riha, on Tuesday, said they were investigating the incident as a possible hate crime, but no suspect had been identified.
The woman, according to report, has been in the U.S. for many years, and has lived about 14 years in the neighborhood the incident occurred.
Police said in addition to dumping paint, the vandals smashed windows with a crowbar and damaged the car’s radio and air conditioner.
Riha said they would consult the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to see if it meets federal hate crime criteria, in which case the federal agency would lead the investigation.
“If not, Nampa police could still choose to pursue it as a hate crime,” he added.
