Kayode Adewale, a mathematics teacher from Ogun State, has made it to the top 50 finalists for the $1 million Global Teacher Prize.

Known for his unique approach of teaching in the Ijebu dialect, Adewale has also pioneered a Space Exploration Club and inspired over 500 schools in the state.

Adewale, who teaches at Imaka/Imagbon Comprehensive High School, uses a culturally relevant approach to engage students, inspiring those who previously struggled with maths.

Born in 1984 in Ago Iwoye, Adewale holds degrees in Mathematics and Education from Tai Solarin University of Education. His career spans primary and secondary school teaching, with a focus on integrating technology and innovation into classrooms.

His dedication to education earned him recognition as the best senior secondary school teacher in Ogun in 2020 and awards like the Maltina Best Teacher of the Year in 2022.

Adewale’s achievements include running a YouTube channel teaching maths in Ijebu and participating in global teacher training programmes.

He intends to use the prize money to fund teacher training, create awareness about the Global Teacher Prize in Africa, support underserved students, and develop tech-based instructional solutions.

He advises the government to improve teacher remuneration and invest in capacity-building programmes to enhance education nationwide.

His commitment to innovative teaching and student engagement has earned him widespread recognition.
