Nigerian Governor Applies Cane to Control COVID-19

Everybody on the streets of Ebonyi State must wear facemask or be caned by government agents, the governor, David Umahi, has announced today.

Two weeks earlier, the state government had commenced the production of 200,000 face masks, to be distributed to the people free of charge, as part of measures of preventing the spread of Coronavirus disease.

The governor at a briefing today in Abakaliki said that he had ordered that anybody seen on the streets without a face mask should be caned by members of a task force.

He had earlier banned the movement of people outside their homes without face masks and further directed security agents as well as the anti-coronavirus taskforce to arrest defaulters.
