A 36-year-old Nigerian man, Igwe Francis, has died under mysterious circumstances in New Delhi, India.
Police said Francis was found dead minutes after being confronted by his ex-landlord in Uttam Nagar area of the city.
The incident occurred on January 6, when Francis was accosted by his former landlord, identified simply as Liaquat, in a bank over his unpaid rent of 80,000 rupees.
Police said Igwe attempted to run away when his 64-year-old ex-landlord demanded his money, but, inexplicably, sustained a head injury in the process.
A spokesman for the police, Surender Kumar, DCP, said no crime weapon had been found, while 25 witnesses have been questioned.
He said investigators believed Igwe somehow got injured while running away from the spot, as the primary post mortem report mentioned his injury on the head as a “bruise”.
Police have, however, sent viscera sample of the deceased to the laboratory for further tests.
Liaquat told the police that Igwe was his tenant and had not paid him rent for nearly one and a half years.
He said the deceased had remained untraceable for a long time, until he bumped into him on the day of the incident.
Kumar said no arrest had been made, adding that police have informed the Nigerian embassy of the incident.
