The Woolwich community in London is gripped by fear and heartbreak as a second child has gone missing in less than a week.
Fourteen-year-old Chidubem, a Nigerian boy described by neighbours as quiet and respectful, was last seen around 10:45 a.m. today wearing his full Woolwich Polytechnic School uniform.
Chidubem’s disappearance has triggered an urgent police appeal. Officers say he was dressed in the school’s distinctive uniform: black trousers and a black blazer bearing a yellow, blue, white, and red insignia on the breast pocket. His white shirt and black tie, adorned with narrow red diagonal stripes, complete the smart school attire.
This latest case follows the unresolved disappearance of 11-year-old Kaliyah Coa, who vanished on Monday after entering the River Thames at the Barge House Causeway, near the Woolwich Ferry. An intensive search operation involving the Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, RNLI, and HM Coastguard was launched, but Kaliyah has not been found.
Community leaders are expressing deep concern over the unsettling pattern.
“We are devastated,” said one local pastor. “Two children in one week. This is not normal. Our prayers are with the families.”
Woolwich is a district in southeast London, England, located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It sits along the southern bank of the River Thames, which is the longest river in England and runs through the heart of London. The Thames flows from the Cotswolds in the west to the North Sea in the east, passing famous landmarks like the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, and Greenwich before reaching Woolwich.
Police have not said whether the cases are connected, but the proximity and timing have shaken local families. Friends of Chidubem’s family say his parents are distraught, with his mother unable to speak as she clings to hope.
Anyone who has seen Chidubem or has information about his whereabouts is urged to contact police immediately.
As the search continues, Woolwich residents are left asking the same haunting question: what is happening to our children?
