The Nigerian government has expressed deep concern over reports of an Israeli airstrike in Doha, Qatar, on Friday, which reportedly targeted senior members of the Hamas leadership.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria emphasised the importance of respecting the sovereignty of all nations and adhering to international law, particularly regarding cross-border use of force.

The Ministry warned that the incident raises serious questions about regional stability and the prospects for ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Nigeria acknowledges Qatar’s longstanding role in fostering dialogue and mediation in the region,” the statement said. “We urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid escalation, and recommit to peaceful engagement.”

The statement also conveyed Nigeria’s sympathies to all those affected by the strike, while reaffirming the country’s support for initiatives promoting de-escalation, dialogue, and durable peace.

Nigeria stressed its commitment to working alongside the international community, within frameworks such as the United Nations and other multilateral fora, to advance peace, security, and the rule of law in the Middle East and beyond.

The press release was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
