Nigeria’s defence ministry has announced the delivery of a new radar equipment to monitor the country’s airspace.

According to the defence ministry news channel’s Twitter handle @DefenseNigeria, Nigeria took delivery of the first RPA-200MC mobile 3D primary radars last night. It is the first out of nine Primary Radars to be procured. The radar will ensure that both friendly and hostile aircrafts in Nigerian airspace are promptly detected.

Developed by Argentine company INVAP, the radar is derived from the long range version RPA-2403D mid range air defense mobile radar that can detect and track low speed, low altitude targets. It can be used in national defense and border control and for civil air traffic control.
