The Nigeria Police Force has announced the passing of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Kanayo V. Uzuegbu, describing the development as a significant loss to the institution.
AIG Uzuegbu, a senior officer with more than three decades of service, died on Friday.
The circumstances surrounding his passing were not disclosed in the official statement issued by Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The Force said he served with distinction, professionalism and dedication to public safety throughout his career, rising through the ranks to hold several strategic command and administrative positions.
Born in Umuaka Community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, he joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Police Academy in Kaduna.
He held a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Port Harcourt, a Higher Diploma in Strategic Studies from the University of Maiduguri, and a Master’s degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the University of Nigeria.
He also completed advanced training in counter-terrorism, human rights, the law of armed conflict and strategic leadership.
During his career, he served in multiple operational and administrative roles, including Squadron Commander of No. 15 PMF in Ilorin, Area Commander in Owerri and Karu, Director of the Central Planning Training Unit at the Police Staff College in Jos, and Commissioner of Police Operations and Communication at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
He later served as Commissioner of Police in Enugu State Command.
He also participated in international peacekeeping operations as Commander of Sector 8 under the African Union mission in Darfur, Sudan.
The leadership of the Nigeria Police Force said he brought honour to the institution and contributed significantly to national security operations and international peacekeeping efforts.
Condolences have been extended to his family, colleagues and associates, with the Force praying for the repose of his soul and strength for those he has left behind.
