The Nigeria Police Force has commenced disciplinary proceedings against 167 senior officers over alleged misconduct.
The process, currently underway at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is being conducted by the Force Disciplinary Committee, an internal body tasked with reviewing cases involving officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the committee is examining a range of pending disciplinary matters relating to breaches of professional conduct and other related offences.
Police authorities said the exercise forms part of ongoing institutional reforms aimed at strengthening internal control mechanisms and ensuring that erring officers are held accountable in line with established laws and regulations.
The outcome of the proceedings will be forwarded to the Police Service Commission for final decisions.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, reiterated that the Force would not shield any officer found culpable, stressing that due process would be strictly followed in all cases under review.
He noted that the disciplinary exercise is intended to promote ethical conduct and professionalism within the Force, while also enhancing public confidence in policing across the country.
The Force Disciplinary Committee is regarded as a critical mechanism within the Nigeria Police structure, designed to ensure that senior officers adhere to the core values of integrity, discipline, and service.
The latest development comes amid sustained calls for reforms in the police, with civil society groups and members of the public urging stronger action against misconduct and abuse of office.
