The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) today announced the introduction of Meningitis A (Men A) vaccine into the nation’s childhood routine immunisation schedule.
The agency made announcement today via a tweet on its official handle, @NphcdaNG.
It said the administration of the vaccine has commenced today across the country and urged nursing mothers to take the their children who are nine months old and below to the health facility closest to them for vaccination.
The vaccine will ensure that every new born in Nigeria is better protected against Meningitis, an often fatal bacteria infection.
The tweet read: “Oh, happy day! It’s our big launch day. Today, Men A vaccine will be introduced into the Routine Immunization schedule nationwide. Take your nine months old children to the nearest health facility for vaccination.”
The agency also said Lagos residents could call the state immunisation officer (Mrs. Omobolanle Orefejo) on 08134599893 for further information about the centres that provide the service in their respective areas.
