Thirty lawyers have been appointed by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) as Senior Advocates of Nigeria.
Among them are Human Rights lawyer, Festus Keyamo and Oyetola Oshobi, the Partner and Head of Litigation at Babalakin & Co, who were dropped in previous exercises.
The Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hadizatu Mustapha, made the announcement in Abuja on Thursday while briefing journalists at the end of the committee’s 127th meeting.
Mustapha said that the successful candidates emerged after three days of final interview in which 72 shortlisted candidates participated.
Mustapha, who is the Secretary of LPPC, added that 156 candidates applied for the prestigious rank out of which 123 qualified for the first round of interview.
Also on the list are the former Alliance for Democracy’s governorship candidate in Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke, and a brother to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, Akinlolu Osinbajo, who is a former Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice in Ogun State; a former Director-General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Prof. Adebambo Adewepo, and the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Prof. Adedeji Adekunle.
One out of five female applicants made the list. She is Oluwatoyin Bashorun.
