As Nigeria prepares to usher in a new nationwide tax regime on January 1, 2026, the Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to ensure a smooth transition by urging taxpayers to verify and consolidate their tax information on the official state revenue portal.
In a message circulated to residents today, Lagos State Revenue authorities urged taxpayers to take immediate steps to confirm their taxpayer details and merge multiple Payer Identification Numbers (PIDs), where applicable.
The text message reads: “Dear TaxPayer, Please note your PayerID(PID):6912345, (TIN):1012345678. Visit https://revenue.lagosstate.gov.ng/ to access your tax and revenue details and to merge any other PID that may have been previously assigned to you.”
The alert is part of a broader reform drive aimed at harmonising tax records, improving accountability, and ensuring that residents meet their tax obligations under the new federal tax structure expected to formally take effect from tomorrow.
The directive to merge multiple PIDs is particularly significant, as Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, hosts the highest concentration of taxpayers and corporate entities. NewsmakersNG learned that the new system seeks to eliminate duplicated records and streamline data to support efficient billing, payment, and compliance monitoring.
Government officials say the modernization of the tax database will help plug revenue leakages, strengthen service delivery, and ensure fairness across the tax ecosystem ahead of the rollout of the reformed system designed to reshape the national fiscal framework.
Residents are advised to log onto the official platform: revenue.lagosstate.gov.ng, where they can review their tax status, access outstanding balances or receipts, and harmonize previously issued tax IDs into a single Payer record.
As Nigeria begins this once-in-a-generation tax reset, all eyes will be on Lagos, whose compliance level and early adoption are expected to set the pace for other states.
