Barely days after the release of Aisha Wahab, who was kidnapped in Edo State earlier this month, another abduction has been reported in the state.

Human rights lawyer, Abdul Mahmud, disclosed on Sunday via X that a woman identified as Joy Ayeni has been kidnapped, with her abductors demanding a ransom of N20 million for her release.

The report comes shortly after Aisha Wahab regained her freedom following nearly two weeks in captivity.

Wahab, a graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, was abducted at Igbira Camp in Etsako West Local Government Area and released in Okpella after her family reportedly paid a ransom of N20 million.

Her ordeal sparked public outrage and criticism of the Edo State Government’s handling of security.

Activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who helped coordinate efforts to secure Wahab’s release, accused the authorities of failing to act swiftly or support the rescue operation.

The latest case involving Joy Ayeni has deepened concerns about the surge in kidnappings across Edo and neighbouring states.

Security experts warn that the recurring ransom demands highlight the growing boldness of criminal gangs operating in the region and the need for more decisive government and police action.

As of press time, neither the Edo State Police Command nor the state government had issued an official statement on the reported abduction of Joy Ayeni.
