…Bashiru-Kaka pledges transparency, stronger diaspora partnerships
MANCHESTER, UK — The newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Community Greater Manchester (NCGM), Otunba Dele Bashiru-Kaka, has unveiled an ambitious reform agenda aimed at strengthening youth development, members’ welfare, transparency and institutional accountability within the organisation.
Bashiru-Kaka, who succeeds Otunba Abiola Kumoye, said his administration would pursue far-reaching structural reforms designed to make the NCGM more inclusive, responsive and effective in serving Nigerians across Greater Manchester.
In a statement outlining his priorities, the new chairman called for unity among members and urged different interests within the organisation to close ranks in pursuit of a common purpose.
He said his leadership would seek to break down barriers that have hindered participation and focus on programmes capable of delivering measurable benefits to the Nigerian diaspora community.
A major plank of the administration’s agenda is youth empowerment, with plans to establish mentorship, career development and networking opportunities to prepare younger Nigerians for professional growth and leadership.
Bashiru-Kaka also pledged to restructure the organisation’s welfare system, particularly to provide more dignified and dedicated support for elderly and vulnerable members of the community.
On external relations, the new leadership plans to deepen engagement with the Nigeria High Commission, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and other diaspora organisations to advance the interests of Nigerians living in Greater Manchester.
Transparency and accountability will also receive priority, with the administration proposing stricter financial oversight, performance assessment mechanisms and direct feedback channels through which members can engage the leadership.
“Our administration will be anchored on a united leadership rooted in quality, inclusivity, and a shared unity of purpose,” Bashiru-Kaka said.
He added that his administration would uphold ethical stewardship and the rule of law in managing the affairs of the organisation.
The new chairman expressed confidence that greater participation, institutional reforms and strategic partnerships would strengthen the NCGM and position it to play a more influential role in promoting the welfare and socio-economic advancement of Nigerians in the region.
NCGM serves as an umbrella community organisation committed to fostering unity, preserving cultural identity and advancing the socio-economic interests of Nigerians residing across Greater Manchester.
