The Cross River State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Morrison Ogbonna, was found dead in a hotel room in Calabar today, sending shockwaves through the security community.

Ogbonna, who was only transferred to the state in August, was found lifeless by his officers who had come to pick him up for an official assignment. When repeated knocks on his door went unanswered, the hotel management was called in to open the room, only to meet the tragic scene.

Police spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo-Obase, confirmed the development, saying the cause of death was yet to be determined.

The sudden loss of the commander has unsettled the NDLEA, with many describing it as a devastating blow to the agency’s anti-narcotics campaign in the state.

  1. This is really sad, it might be cardiac arrest or high blood pressure . May his gentle soul rest in peace. They should be able to detect the cause of his death through autopsy
