Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 52-year-old businessman, identified as Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) after he excreted 127 wraps of cocaine concealed in his stomach and underwear.
According to a statement by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the suspect was intercepted on arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941 on October 8.
Babafemi said preliminary checks revealed that Emeka, who operates boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, had ingested a significant quantity of cocaine and concealed additional wraps in his private parts.
“He was taken for a body scan, which confirmed he ingested illicit drugs and had some concealed in his private part,” the statement said.
During interrogation and subsequent observation, Emeka reportedly excreted a total of 69 wraps of cocaine in seven rounds, in addition to the 58 wraps initially recovered from his underwear.
The combined 127 wraps weighed 1.388 kilograms.
The NDLEA said the suspect has been taken into custody and is cooperating with investigators.
In a related development, the agency also intercepted multiple drug consignments at courier firms in Lagos between October 9 and 10.
Among the seized items were 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed inside blocks of glass ceramics bound for the United Kingdom, as well as several parcels of tramadol and pentazocine injections.
The NDLEA said all the recovered exhibits are undergoing forensic analysis, while further investigations continue to trace the networks behind the consignments.
