The Niger State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disclosed that out of 125 suspected drug dealers arrested in 2025, only one was a female.
The State Commander, Shehu Gwadabawa, made the disclosure while presenting the command’s end-of-year scorecard, noting that the arrests were part of sustained enforcement efforts against illicit drug trafficking and abuse across the state.
According to him, the command seized a total of 7,176.04288 kilograms of assorted illicit drugs within the year and secured 121 convictions at the Federal High Court, Minna, reflecting what he described as a strong prosecution record.
Gwadabawa said the anti-drug campaign in 2025 recorded remarkable progress in enforcement, public sensitisation, rehabilitation, and prosecution, driven largely by the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative.
He disclosed that the command conducted 219 WADA sensitisation engagements across Niger State, during which 299 drug users were counselled, while 15 clients were rehabilitated.
“As we enter 2026, our commitment to a drug-free Niger State remains unwavering,” the commander said, while appealing for improved logistics and operational support to enable effective coverage of the eight area commands under the state command.
He commended officers and men of the command for their dedication, professionalism, and integrity, stressing that their resolve to shun corruption was central to the successes recorded in 2025.
