Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have arrived at the Abuja venue of their expected defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Videos shared online show the two political heavyweights arriving at the venue at about 5pm, accompanied by a large crowd of supporters.
A photo shared on the NDC’s official X handle showed Obi and Kwankwaso in what appeared to be a pre-defection meeting with the party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, alongside other party figures.
Their arrival follows Obi’s earlier public confirmation on Sunday that he had exited the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal crises, persistent litigation, and what he described as a toxic political environment within the party.
Obi stated that the same forces that destabilised his former platform, the Labour Party, were beginning to manifest within the ADC, prompting his decision to step away despite maintaining respect for party leaders, including former Senate President David Mark.
The development comes amid mounting reports that both Obi and Kwankwaso have been in advanced talks with the NDC over a possible joint political platform.
Party officials have previously indicated openness to offering them a presidential ticket as part of a broader coalition strategy.
The ADC has, however, downplayed the significance of the reported exits, insisting it remains focused on its 2027 electoral preparations despite ongoing internal disputes.
