The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has appealed to Comfort Emmanson, the passenger involved in a mid-flight altercation aboard Ibom Air flight IAN513, to come forward and participate in the ongoing investigation.
Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, shared updates on X, emphasising the authority’s efforts to contact Ms. Emmanson.
He noted that her number from the booking keeps returning as “switched off” and urged anyone with access to her to encourage her to reach out.
“We have invited the cabin crew member to the NCAA for a meeting. We are also trying to reach out to Ms. Comfort. Her number from her booking keeps returning, ‘switched off.’ If anybody has access to her, kindly have her reach out,” Achimugu posted.
The incident, which occurred on August 10, 2025, during a flight from Uyo to Lagos, has attracted widespread attention.
Video footage circulating on social media shows Ms. Emmanson being forcibly removed from the aircraft by security personnel following a reported confrontation with the cabin crew.
She alleged that a flight attendant physically assaulted her, including tearing off her wig and damaging her personal belongings.
In response, Ibom Air imposed a lifetime ban on Ms. Emmanson, citing a zero-tolerance policy against behavior that endangers passengers and crew. The airline also submitted a detailed report of the incident to the NCAA.
The NCAA has launched a thorough investigation and continues to gather multiple perspectives.
Achimugu highlighted that a third passenger has come forward with a slightly different account, underscoring the complexity of the case.
He posted: “This is why investigations take a while; to get as much evidence as necessary to ensure as close to fair and just conclusions as possible.”
He also reminded the public about the importance of following cabin crew instructions for safety: “Always obey cabin crew. Always.”
As the investigation continues, the NCAA is urging Ms. Emmanson to engage with the process to ensure that all sides are heard and a fair resolution is reached.
