The Nigerian Bar Association has called for the immediate release of Miss Eunice Ameh, a young lawyer and member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), whose disappearance has sparked anxiety and outrage within the legal community.
In a strongly worded statement titled “Release Eunice Ameh Now!”, the President of the NBA, Afam Osigwe, described Ameh’s disappearance as a painful development that has deeply shaken lawyers across the country.
Osigwe said the legal profession was more than a body of practitioners, stressing that the NBA remained a close-knit community united by shared struggles, aspirations, and a collective responsibility to protect one another.
“When a young lawyer goes missing, the pain is not distant to the Nigerian Bar Association; it is personal,” the statement read.
He lamented that a young Nigerian who had answered the national call to service through the NYSC scheme could vanish without what he described as an immediate and coordinated response from security agencies.
The NBA President urged the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of Police to deploy all tactical and intelligence resources necessary to secure Ameh’s safe return and bring anyone connected to her disappearance to justice.
“This is not a moment for routine assurances. Every passing hour matters, and every effort must count,” Osigwe stated.
The association also expressed solidarity with Ameh’s family, friends, and colleagues during what it described as a painful and uncertain period, while appealing to members of the public with useful information to cooperate with security authorities.
The disappearance of the young lawyer has triggered growing concern within the legal community and renewed fears over the safety of corps members and young professionals across the country.
