NAPTIP Endorses JIFORM Conference

The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has endorsed the proposed international migration conference being organized by the Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM).

The event is slated for November 25-29, 2019 in Abuja, Nigeria.

NAPTIP declared support for the association on Wednesday during a delegation of JIFORM led by its President Ajibola Abayomi to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja where he presented a proposal on the event to the anti-human trafficking body.

The Director-General of NAPTIP, Mrs Julie Okah-Doni represented by the Head of Public Enlightenment of the agency, Mr Orakuwe Arinze said the establishment was proud of JIFORM and its various activities.

He called for further collaborations to end human trafficking in the nation.

He said, “NAPTIP is fully behind JIFORM. We have endorsed the conference and shall give the necessary supports to ensure its success. We observed that members of JIFORM are spread across the globe. That is a big plus for the leadership of the association. 

“The association from what I have noted is a group of determined media professionals that are ready to contribute to the fight against irregular migration. It is an honour to be on the platform of a global body being led by a Nigerian.”

He added that NAPTIP would go beyond profiling to empower Nigerians evacuated from South Africa because of the xenophobic attacks. The agency regretted the incident and condemned it in strong terms.

“In as much as we would have loved to commit more funds and logistics to upgrade the capacity of the returnees through additional skill acquisitions programmes beyond what we have been doing, however our access to fully fund to do all these are limited.

“Hundreds of Nigerian returnees from different countries are under our custody at our various commands and rehabilitation centres across the country. 

“We shall profile them as they come to know exactly what to do in addition to a thorough investigation, medical examination and their upkeeps. Not minding the fact that we are law enforcing establishment, we are still committed to humanitarian services,” Orakuwe said.
