Ololade Adeyanju

A 38-year-old clearing agent, Yakubu Kabiru, today appeared before a Federal High Court in Lagos, over importation of fake and unregistered insecticide.
Newsmakers reports that Kabiru, who resides at Custom Quarters Road Seme, is charged by the National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on three counts bordering on importation of fake products.
He was arraigned before Justice Abdulazeez Anka.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
After his plea, defence counsel, Mr Nathaniel Emeka, made an oral application for bail of the accused.
In response, the trial judge ordered counsel to file a proper application for bail before the next adjourned date.
The judge however, ordered the remand of the accused in custody pending his bail.
Anka subsequently, adjourned the case to January 31, 2017 for trial.
In the charge, the prosecutor, Mr Umar Shamaki told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 14.
He said that the accused was arrested on the said date, along the Agbara-Badagry expressway in Lagos, for allegedly importing Green Arrow Plant Fibre Mosquito Coil.
According to Shamaki, the said unregistered products are categorised by the Agency, as banned.
He said that the alleged offences contravened the provisions of section 1(a) of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs, Unwholesome Processed Food (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, Cap A34 Laws of the Federation 2004.
He added that the offence also contravened the provisions of sections 1(1) of the Food, Drugs (Related products Registration) Act, Cap F33 Laws of the Federation, 2004.
