The Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr Jelani Aliyu, has won the 2018 Global Peace Movement International (UK) Pathfinder Award.

In a statement released in London today, the Global Peace Movement International (GPMI), an organisation that promotes good governance, holistic development, human rights and conflicts resolutions worldwide, said Aliyu was given the award for his innovation and creativity, which have created sustainable opportunities for Nigeria and Africa.

According to the President-General of GPMI, Dr Mike Uyi, the award was also a recognition of Aliyu’s “contributions to the positive transformation of the automotive sector in Nigeria, Africa and the world at large”.

“Aliyu’s innovations have created thousands of jobs, created millions of development opportunities and given new lease of life to industrial development in Nigeria and Africa”, Uyi said.

He described Aliyu’s successes as “outstanding and remarkable”, noting that Nigerians and the international community recognised “the exemplary ideals of living for the sake of others, which his life represents”.

Uyi also highlighted some achievements of the NADDC under Aliyu’s leadership, including the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding with the German government for the production of Volkswagen vehicles in Nigeria, as well as the building of emission test facilities around the country to promote environmental sustainability.

While noting that Aliyu’s life has been all about service to God and country, Uyi said: “Global Peace Movement International (UK), with its affiliates in 106 countries around the world, commends you for your practical dedication to duty, sound values, strong focus and commitment, and innovation that support the African renaissance.
