Panic has gripped officials of Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area in Lagos following the sudden death of the council chairman today, two weeks after the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) died.

Council officials told NewsmakersNG that the death of the Chairman, Dr Augustine Adeoye Arogun and that of the SLG, Alhaja Gbemisola Abiodun Ayilara, has fueled rumours of Coronavirus attack at the Council Secretariat.

Among those who mourn the death on Facebook are the Chairman of Conference 57 in Lagos, Mrs Omolola Essien and the Chief Press Secretary to the late council chairman, Mr Edafe Oghenebrume.

Mrs Essien stated: “The Lagos State Conference of Local Government and Local Council Development Area Chairmen, Conference 57 regret to announce the demise of one of their colleague, Dr Augustine Adeoye Arogundade, the Executive chairman Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA (Alimosho LG).

“The sad incident occurs some minutes ago. We pray the Good Lord forgive his shortcomings and grant him paradise while we continue to pray for the family at this trying time.”

Oghenebrume stated in his condolence message via the Council’s media platform on Facebook: “Goodnight my irreplaceable boss! The Executive Chairman of Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA, Dr Augustine Adeoye Arogundade. May your soul find eternal rest.”

NewsmakersNG learnt that the late Arogun had been very active in the distribution of palliatives to residents of the local government area to cushion the effects of COVID-19.

The cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
