In an emotional moment at the Liberal Party leadership convention on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s 16-year-old daughter, Ella-Grace, delivered a heartfelt tribute to her father’s years of service, marking what was likely his final speech as Prime Minister.
Addressing the gathered Liberals in Ottawa, Ella-Grace reflected on the challenges of growing up in the public eye and expressed pride in her father’s dedication to Canada.
“My brothers and I have shared our dad with you for the past 12 years. Now we’re taking him back. But before we do, I guess you can have him one last time,” she said, introducing him as “Your Prime Minister—my dad.”
She acknowledged the sacrifices that come with public service, not just for a leader but for their family as well.
“I know from experience that being Prime Minister is a hard job, but it’s not easy being the kid of a Prime Minister either,” she remarked. “Imagine constantly seeing your dad—or even news about him—as you scroll through your feed. I gotta say, I’m looking forward to seeing more of him at home and less of him online.”
Her words struck an emotional chord, prompting a deeply moved Prime Minister Trudeau to embrace his daughter tightly before stepping up to deliver his farewell address.
