Murder of Guilder Ultimate Search Winner: Killer Gang Used Uber Taxi, Police …Six Held, Detectives Suspect Cultism

Matilda Omonaiye/

Those who killed Hector Oluwaseun Jobarteh, the winner of Season 3 of Guilder Ultimate Search reality TV show, operated in Uber Cab, say the police who paraded six suspects today.

The suspects, including the Uber driver, phone dealers, among others were arrested by Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) officers in Lagos.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal

The state commissioner of police (CP), Imohimi Edgal, told reporters at the parade today that the police were on the trail of a particular member of the gang.

Edgal said, “Police arrested six suspects in connection with the murder. One of the suspects is an Uber driver that conveyed the killers. The police also recovered the victim’s phone. One suspect is still at large but we are on his trail.”

The Uber driver, 28-year-old William Iginla, however denied the allegation.

He said, “I know the others through my cousin Mona Valentine. During our first meeting, the others took me round Yabatech. The next day, the guys took me to Abeokuta and I charged them N20, 000. They gave me N10, 000, but while we were on our way, one of them called JK told me to give the car to one of them to drive; but I refused. JK brought out a gun and corked it. I was afraid and I ran out. They ran after me. They took the car from me and later I learnt that they killed someone.”

Abdulrasheed Jimoh, the suspect in possession of the deceased’s phone, also denied killing Hector. He said, “I am a tailor. I went to computer village to buy a phone and I got this phone. Later I was arrested.”

According to the police, the victim went to pick his brother on Saturday; the killers followed him to his house. When they got to the apartment, they met his younger brother who asked who they were.

“They told him that they wanted to see his elder brother. Immediately they sighted him, one of them brought out a gun and shot him dead. From what we have gathered, it appears to be a reprisal attack. There are some pointers that it had something to do with cultism,” Lagos police spokesman, Olarinde Famous Cole, said.

Hector’s moment of victory as GUS winner.

Hector won GUS 3 held at NIFOR, in Benin City, Edo State in 2006. He went home with the Grand Prize of N5million and a Ford Explorer SUV. He got married in 2013.
