A patrol car belonging to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) was gutted by fire this morning in Lagos.
An unidentified white man reportedly died in the incident while no fewer than six others sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
Newsmakerslive.org learnt that incident happened on Eletu Ogabi street, off Adeola Odeku road, in Victoria Island, when a generator house attached to a high-rise office complex caught fire.
An eyewitness claimed that some occupants of the police patrol vehicle were also burnt to death. This claim has not been verified by Newsmakerslive.org.
Another eyewitness suggested that the fire was caused by a gas leak during a drilling work in the vicinity. He added that six people lost their lives in the incident.
“At least six people died in the unfortunate incident. Firefighters arrived from @EkoHotels but they were pelted and sent away. I suspect a gas leak during a drilling operation. The @rrslagos767 vehicle parked at the location was equally gutted,” the eyewitness, @ThisFowora, wrote on Twitter.
Others also expressed fears about the fire spreading to surrounding buildings, especially the nearby Keystone Bank branch and SPA supermarket.
A video shared by @Yorubaness on Twitter shows the fire raging as eyewitnesses battle to rescue some of the trapped victims, while others use fire extinguishers to try and put out the fire.
