Motorists See Hell on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Patience Ogbo/

Motorists plying the Lagos- Ibadan Express way battled with a hellish gridlock today.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the gridlock was caused by a tanker that spilled its petroleum content on the road.

According to investigations, the gridlock was also imbued with those travelling for the Eid el Kabir celebration, which also led to increase in transport fares.

A traveller, Mrs. Comfort Daniels, said she spent five hours on the road waiting to get a vehicle from Berger Bus Stop to Ibadan.

She said, “I got to Ketu bus terminal about 1am to board a bus to Ibadan, but I was shocked at the large number of travellers I saw at the park. Lagos to Ibadan from Ketu was N600, but today it skyrocketed to N2000. I couldn’t afford it so I took a bus to Berger Terminus, but that too was hell. I stood at Berger Terminus for five hours. The road was at a standstill and there were no commercial buses to Ibadan. Some motorists were hiking trucks just to get to their destination. I finally got a bus about 5:30 pm. I don’t know when I will get to my house today.”

Another traveller, Maxwell King, said, “I have been in the gridlock for four hours. I heard a tanker conveying petrol spilled its content on the road. Government agency in charge of taking care of emergency should help soon to avoid the disaster that happened this year at the Otedola bridge”.
It was also gathered that motorists that plied the road yesterday also went through long hours of traffic.
