Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has called on Nigerians to pray for peace, asserting that “where there is peace, there will be development.”
The Governor commended the members of Motailatu Church of God (MCG) for their support of his administration since he assumed office. Aiyedatiwa spoke on Sunday in Ondo City during the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the church. The event took place at the International Headquarters of the church, Saint Adekahunsi Cathedral, Oke-Iwosan, Ondo City, and was attended by numerous Ondo chiefs, leaders from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC).
Chief Ade Iluyemi, a prominent Ondo leader and educationist, chaired the event, supported by his wife, two-term Commissioner Chief (Mrs.) Funke Iluyemi.
Aiyedatiwa lauded the church’s founder, Saint Isaiah M. Akinadewo (Omo Jesu), for his lasting impact on spreading the Christian faith since establishing the church in 1964.
Dr. Benson Enikuomehin, a former Commissioner in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), also spoke, urging Nigerian leaders to be patriotic to ensure the people enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Aiyedatiwa congratulated the church members on their 60th anniversary and urged continued prayers for peace and harmony in Ondo State and Nigeria.
The Governor also called for further support from the church’s members globally and encouraged fervent prayers for the success of the upcoming gubernatorial election in November.
Aiyedatiwa highlighted several developmental projects initiated since he took office in December, promising continued efforts to improve the lives of Ondo State’s residents.
In his sermon, Senior Superintendent Gabriel F. Akinadewo (Omo Jesu II), Chairman of the church’s Board of Trustees (BoT), encouraged Nigerians to rely on God for assistance. He stressed the importance of doing the right thing at the appropriate time, supported by passages from the Holy Bible.
Akinadewo lamented the country’s insecurity issues, urging both fervent prayers and government action to address these challenges. He emphasized that the government has the power to combat banditry and other security threats using the authority granted by God.
Reflecting on the church’s history, Akinadewo recounted its founding by his late father, Isaiah MoyinOlorun Akinadewo, in Ibadan in 1964 and its subsequent establishment in Ondo City in 1981. He highlighted the church’s significant achievements and its positive impact on various communities.
The celebration featured anniversary thanksgiving, donations, prayers, and musical performances by church choristers from various parishes.
