A man considered as the brain behind most kidnappings in Lagos was today busted in his hideout at Magodo area of the state.
Identified as 36-year-old Chukwudidumeme Onuamadike aka Evans, the police say his arrest will bring lasting peace to Lagos.
“I’m the happiest person on Earth today. I thank God… Lagos will have peace now,” says ACP Abba Kyari who led the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) Intelligence Response Team that made the breakthrough.
Evans was recently declared wanted by the IGP, Mr Ibrahim Idris, with a N30million bounty on his head after the arrest of members of his gang.
Newsmakersng learnt that the suspect was arrested at about 1pm today in his mansion at Magodo, in Lagos by IRT and TIU operatives.
According to the police, Evans led a gang that had allegedly kidnapped wealthy people in Lagos and environs. The victims were usually asked to pay a ransom of not less than N500million before their release.
Four AK47 rifles and more than 1000 rounds of ammunition were allegedly recovered from the suspect’s mansion.
Police claimed that the arrest had been a long coming, because no one had his photograph to identify him with.
Newsmakersng also learnt from the police that the gang was formerly operating from Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin, and Ojo areas of Lagos, where victims were found to have been kept for up to seven months.
The operations was said to have extended to Port Harcourt, Bayelsa, and Warri, in Delta State.
The police also fingered Evans as the only surviving member of a gang that allegedly kidnapped the proprietor of Young Shall Grow Motors, Chief Vincent Obianudo, at Festac, Town, in August 2013.
