Participants in the Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox (MMM) scheme, who are otherwise known as Mavrodians, in Nigeria will come together, in Lagos, on Sunday, to celebrate and reaffirm their continued participation in the scheme.
The event is in defiance of the widely publicised imminent collapse of the scheme, following the freezing of the accounts of participants by the administrators of the scheme on December 13, with a promise that normal activities will resume after 30 days.
The development has led to widespread speculation that the scheme has reached a dead end like other similar ponzi schemes and participants should begin to count their losses.
Also, the founder of the scheme, Sergei Mavrodi, had, earlier on, written to the Federal Government to address the concerns raised by the House of Representatives and some financial regulatory agencies about the authenticity of the scheme.
Tomorrow’s event , tagged: MMM Nigeria Thanksgiving/End of Year Get-Together, will hold at Eden Comfort Place, 17 Alade Avenue, Off Obafemi Awolowo Road, Ikeja.
The invitation, which was posted on the Facebook page of one of the two identified coordinators, otherwise known as guiders, of the scheme in Nigeria, Yinka Odeyemi, said the event will start by 2pm.
The other coordinator of the scheme is identified as Chuddy Ugorji, who reportedly got married to his fiancée, Amaka, in a lavish ceremony, in Lagos, on November 12.
Participants in the scheme gave the couple a wedding gift of a Hyundai Crewe SUV, while one of Nigeria’s most popular music artistes, KC, was on the band stand.
The invitation to tomorrow’s event also noted: “Let’s come together to appreciate God for a whole year of selfless providing and giving help!!! Indeed, amidst all oppositions, God has been Faithful. If you are or will still be in Lagos by then, please make it a date!!”
Apart from the thanksgiving party, some participants in the scheme are also organising a charity event, in Lagos, today, as part of efforts to convince the public, especially investors, that the scheme is still intact.
A notice of the event posted by one Promise Morgan Uzochukwu on his Facebook page reads: “Irrespective of the frozen confirmed Mavros for 30 days, I am using this medium to invite the whole Team QwinPresh Mavrodians to Team QwinPresh Charity Event on Saturday, by 10am.”
Highlights of the event, which will hold at the palace of the community chief, in Orile Iganmu, include donation of food items, exercise books and other materials.
The notice further stated: “Come with members of your structure, your DLs in and out of Lagos and let’s celebrate the power of giving with Team QwinPresh in this season of sharing the Mavrodian way. We hope to see you all around as you make it a date with the number one Mavrodian of Team QwinPresh.”
Coordinators of the scheme have been making frantic efforts to ease the anxiety generated by the announcement of the freeze and to reassure participants of the sustainability of the scheme.
Tomorrow’s event is believed to be part of such efforts.
