MMA2 Protest: Bi-Courtney Recalls 37 Dismissed Workers in Principle

Femi Ashekun/

The Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport terminal two, said it had recalled all the dismissed 37 workers.

The agreement reached with the recalled staff, however, stipulated that they would not resume work pending the determination of their severance package and other statutory terminal benefits.

The company, owned by business man, Wale Babalakin, SAN, noted that it had also paid October salary to the workers.

The protesting Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria had on Tuesday shut down the terminal over the sacking of their colleagues by BASL.

However, the association in a statement on Tuesday, ended the industrial action against BASL over the sacking of 37 members of the association without due process.

A statement yesterday by BASL’s Head of Corporate Communications, Oluwatosin Onalaja, said this was part of the resolutions reached following the intervention of the federal government.

According to BASL, “A resolution was reached on the same day of the strike action, after a stakeholders’ meeting mediated by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

“The stakeholders’ meeting concluded that the staff should be recalled on the clear instruction that they should not report to work.

“The issue of appropriate severance packages will be mediated between the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the unions and BASL. The alleged outstanding salary, which is for October 2022, due at the end of October 2022 and thus not a delayed salary, should be paid and has since been paid by BASL.”
