A student of Osun State University, Yemi Olaniyan, who went missing after allegedly seeking refuge at the Ojodu police station in Lagos has been found.
Police said that the final year student of Accounting was discovered to have holed up at his girlfriend’s house in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, during the period he was declared missing.
Yemi reportedly came to Lagos to submit some forms for his IT at the ICAN office on February 28.
He allegedly last spoke to a colleague, Oyin, same day, around 7.30pm, telling her that he was stranded and would pass the night at the Ojodu Police Station.
Police said at the time they have no record that the student visited the station or was detained there.
But police spokesman SP Chike Oti said in a statement today Yemi never came to Lagos after he left the Okuku campus of his university on February 28.
NewsmakersNG learned that the student’s whereabouts was uncovered by the Department of State Security.
The statement said the Yemi is being detained at the DSS office in Osogbo.
The statement reads: “The Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that one Mr. Yemi Olaniyan, said to be a final year student of accounting at Osun State University, who purportedly came to Lagos to submit documents at an ICAN office in Lagos and thereafter, allegedly slept at Ojodu Police Station on February 28 2018, has been found.
“The said Yemi Olaniyan, from available information, never ventured into Lagos. He had all these while been gallivanting and junketing with his girlfriend in Osogbo the Osun State capital.
The pleasure loving kid is presently cooling his heels in a DSS custody in Osogbo.
“Further development on this would be communicated as usual.”
