Updated: Angry Residents Kill Policeman, Set Akure Church Ablaze Over Missing Child

Angry residents reportedly killed a policeman and also set ablaze the Sotitobire Miracle Church in Akure, Ondo State, this morning over rumours that the corpse of a one-year-old missing child, Gold Kolawole, was found in the premises.

One person was also reportedly killed by stray bullets fired by policemen deployed in the area to disperse the crowd.

Vehicles and other properties belonging to the church were also torched be the mob.

The yet-to-be-identified policeman was said to be among those guarding the church at the time of the incident.

Some leaders of the church who were conducting morning service narrowly escaped being lynched by the mob.

The founder of the church, Prophet Alpha Babatunde, has been in the custody of State Security Service (SSS) since two weeks ago.
