Three siblings were burnt to death at their residence in Molete area of Ibadan, Oyo State in the early hours of today after they were reportedly locked up in their apartment by their parents.
The victims’ parents, identified as Tunde and Christiana Emmanuel, were working overnight and had locked up the children at home as a safety measure.
This had however prevented the children from escaping when fire started in the house where the family lived in a one room accommodation.
The victims whose names were given as Glory, 14; Samuel, 8 and Darasimi, 3 reportedly shouted for help but neighbours found it difficult to rescue them until the fire got out of control.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the fire started around 1am and destroyed a sizeable part of the eight-room bungalow before it was put out.
But while other tenants managed to escape, the three siblings were trapped in the room they shared with their parents
It is suspected that the fire was caused by a surge in voltage when power was restored.
The remains of the victims were reportedly evacuated by policemen.
