The Nigeria Police Force has assured Nigerians of sustained vigilance and proactive security measures across the country amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives, property, and national peace.
The police boss emphasized that while Nigeria remains stable and its internal security situation firmly under control, the Force has activated reinforced, intelligence-led policing strategies nationwide to forestall any potential fallout from global developments.
According to the statement, all Commissioners of Police across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory have been directed to heighten surveillance and strengthen intelligence gathering, particularly in the North West, North East, and North Central zones.
The IGP also ordered increased visibility policing around worship centres and other public spaces, as well as enhanced collaboration with traditional rulers and religious leaders to promote community-based peacebuilding efforts.
“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates that Nigeria will not serve as a theatre for foreign conflicts,” the statement declared, warning that any attempt to import ideological or religious tensions into the country would be met with the full weight of the law.
The Force further urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, encouraging the prompt reporting of suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
Disu called on community leaders nationwide to intensify efforts in promoting unity and peaceful coexistence, stressing that national stability remains paramount despite global uncertainties.
The police leadership assured Nigerians that the Force remains resolute, prepared, and fully committed to safeguarding every citizen and maintaining law and order at all times.
