Methodist Church Renames Cathedral after Sir Remi Omotoso, as Remains Rest in Ayedun-Ekiti

Methodist Church Nigeria has renamed the Cathedral of Christ in Ayedun-Ekiti, Ekiti State, after the late Sir Remi Omotoso, a one time conference lay president of the church and member of its board of trustees.

Methodist Church prelate, His Eminence Kalu Uche, made the proclamation renaming the Cathedral after Omotoso in his charge at the deceased’s funeral service, in his hometown of Ayedun-Ekiti, today.

In the charge read on his behalf by the archbishop of Ilesa, Most Rev. Amos Akindeko, the Methodist prelate said the cathedral would now be known as Sir Oluremi Omotoso Memorial Methodist Cathedral.

The prelate described Omotoso as a pillar of Methodist Church Nigeria, who worked tirelessly for the growth of the church till he took his last breath.

In his sermon, Akindeko likened late Omotoso to the faithful servants in one of the parables of Jesus Christ in Matthew 25: 14-30, who utilised the talents given to them by their master and received bountiful rewards for their diligence.

According to him, the late Omotoso did not hold back any of his numerous talents and gifts, but maximized them for the benefits of his fellow men and the church of God throughout his lifetime.

He urged his children not to depart from the path laid for them by their late father.

Omotoso, a seasoned administrator and boardroom guru, had an illustrious career in the private sector starting from Lever Brothers, where he rose to the position of a director before leaving to join leading indigenous conglomerate, Odu’a Investment Company Limited as Group Managing Director.

He also served as Director General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as Chairman of the Boards of Standard Chartered Bank and DN Meyer Paints, Greenwich Trust Limited, University of Ibadan Ventures Limited and Ado Poly Ventures, among others.

He died in Lagos on June 5, during a brief illness. He was 75.

The funeral was witnessed by members of his immediate family, including his widow, Lady Ebunoluwa Omotoso and his children.

Other officiating ministers were led by the Methodist Bishop of Aiyedun diocese, Rt. Rev. Titus Omoniyi.
