MC Oluomo Flouts Court Order, Assumes Office as NURTW President

Femi Ashekun/

In a bold and controversial move, Musiliu ‘MC Oluomo’ Akinsanya, has defied a Court of Appeal ruling, dramatically assuming office as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

This audacious act comes just days after the appellate court reaffirmed Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate leader of the union.

MC Oluomo’s announcement, yesterday, sent shockwaves through the transport sector, marking his first public declaration of authority since the court nullified his election.

His rise to the presidency, unopposed during a zonal election in Osogbo, had been invalidated by a three-member judicial panel, which upheld an earlier ruling from the National Industrial Court.

The panel not only stripped him of the presidency but also imposed a N100,000 fine in favor of the respondents.

Yet, the embattled Lagos strongman seems undeterred, throwing down the gauntlet in what some are calling a blatant power grab.

Renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has sounded the alarm, urging federal authorities to act swiftly. He called on Attorney-General, Lateef Fagbemi and Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to enforce the court’s decision and restore Baruwa’s leadership, warning of potential chaos if the law is not upheld.
