Musician, Fashola Babatunde, popularly known as Naira Marley, has shot back at the Chief Executive Officer of Executive Jet, Sam Iwu, an aviation company, for calling him and members of his band “useless people”.
Following an indefinite suspension placed on the airline for flying Naira Marley and his colleagues to Abuja in violation of the COVID-19 restrictions, Iwu had written a letter of apology to aviation minister, Hadi Sirika, explaining that his company mistook the name on the manifest to be that of the works and housing minister, Mr. Babatunde Fashola.
Part of the letter reads, “So on Saturday morning 13th June, 2020 my staff called me that they have a charter flight to Abuja and that the passengers are already in the lounge as a rule passenger manifest is always sent to me before any departure, when I went through the manifest and I saw FASHOLA BABATUNDE I thought it was the Honorable Minister of Works going to Abuja with his men, so we decided to do the flight since (he) is a serving minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I didn’t know that it was a bunch of useless people.”
Responding to Iwu via his verified Twitter handle, Naira Marley said over 20,000 of his fans who fly with Executive Jet every week would henceforth boycott the airline.
He also said he was thankful to God for sparing their lives during the controversial flight to Abuja, because the aircraft nearly crashed on the way.
He tweeted, “Do u know that over 20,000 Marlians travel with executive jet a month. We won’t be using ur useless airline again for calling us useless.
“Thank God we didn’t crash on that flight sha because we nearly did.
“BTW We didn’t book the flight ourselves.”
