A man has told the police in Ogun State how he killed and buried his lover in his house just to steal over half-a-million naira she had on her during a visit.
Evoking echoes of Apostle Paul’s words in the Bible – ‘Love of money is the root of all evil,’ 47-year-old Kazeem Adebayo had money on his mind when he invited his lover so they could go for a plot of land that she wanted to buy for her mother.
Apparently blinded by love, 30-year-old Abosede Adesanya didn’t suspect that her life could be in danger when she dashed to her lover’s house in Ijebu-Igbo with N530, 000 in hand.
Several songs have described love as a dangerous thing, but how careful can one be when you are alone at home with the one you love?
Abosede ran into a nightmare while pursuing a dream.
According to Ogun State police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, Adebayo confessed that he clubbed Abosede on the head and dug a shallow grave in his house to bury her.
When Abosede did not return home, her mother – Mrs Amoke Onasanya lodged a complaint with the police at Ijebu-Igbo Divisional Headquarters on January 25, 2019.
She told the police that her daughter had received a call from her boyfriend on January 24 that he had found a plot of land for her to buy, so Abosede left home with the sum of N530, 000.
Mrs Onasanya disclosed that hours after Abosede left home, her cell phone was switched off and she could not be reached since then.
The police invited Adebayo and he denied knowing the whereabouts of the deceased.
Then the Ogun State commissioner of police (CP) Ahmed Iliyasu stepped in and ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID), DCP Wale Abbas, to take over the investigation and unravel the mystery behind the missing woman, who was a mother-of-five.
In the course of investigations, detectives discovered a shallow grave inside Adebayo’s house.
When the grave was dug, the decomposing body of the late Abosede was found.
The police told NewsmakersNG that it was at this point that the suspect confessed that he killed Abosede and took possession of the N530, 000 on her.
He further confessed that he used N30, 000 out of the stolen money to pay a debt and kept the remaining amount with a friend.
He also told the police that he buried the victim in his house to cover any trace of the woman’s death to him.
The police have deposited Abosede’s body at the General Hospital morgue for post mortem, and CP Iliyasu has directed the SCIID to expedite action into the investigation in order to arraign the suspect before a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as possible.
