The police in Ogun have held a man who allegedly defiled a 13-year-old girl spending her holiday at a village in the state.
Police investigations revealed that the 29-year-old suspect, Soji Ogunrinola aka bulldozer, had threatened to kill the victim if she ever mentioned the incident to anyone.
But the lid was blown off when the victim’s mother noticed blood stains on her clothes and began to ask questions.
The stepfather, Monsuru Badmus, of Ogiri Ojule Village in Odeda Local Government Area of the state later reported the crime at Odeda police station.
The complainant told the police that the suspect threatened to kill the girl if she ever told anybody about her ordeal.
The victim’s mother described the suspect as a notorious thug in the village.
Ogun State police spokesman, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, told NewsmakersNG that the Divisional Police Officer at Odeda Division, CSP Muhammad Baba Suleiman, led detectives to the crime scene and aŕrested the suspect.
“On interrogation, he confessed to the commission of the crime while the victim was taken to the Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta, for medical examination,” Oyeyemi stated.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Ahmed Iliyasu has transferred the case to the anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department for proper investigation and prosecution of the suspect.
The CP appealed to parents to be mindful of their children’s welfare, most especially as the children are just returning to school “in order to secure them from this type of animal in human skin”.
