A man who was jailed after being convicted over social media posts concerning the daughter of Nigerian singer, Adekunle Gold, has regained his freedom after a benefactor paid the fine imposed by a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The development was disclosed by activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, who said Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, popularly known online as Swanky001 or Swanky_concept, had been released and reunited with his family.

According to Sowore, a concerned individual stepped forward to pay the court-imposed fine following public reactions to the sentence handed down to Adeyeye.

“As a result, Adeyeye has now been released and reunited with his family,” Sowore said in a post on X.

Adeyeye was arrested, prosecuted and convicted on charges of cyberstalking, cyberbullying and disseminating information that the court found to be false and malicious.

The case arose from social media posts relating to the daughter of Adekunle Gold and his wife, Simi, one of Nigeria’s most prominent celebrity couples.

The prosecution argued that the content of the posts breached laws relating to online harassment and the publication of false information.

Following his conviction, the court imposed a sentence that included the option of a fine in lieu of imprisonment.

The case drew significant attention on social media, where it sparked debate about online conduct, cyberbullying and the legal consequences of publishing content about public figures and their families.

Neither Adekunle Gold nor Simi had publicly commented on Adeyeye’s release as of the time of reporting.

The couple have previously sought to shield their daughter from public scrutiny and have consistently appealed for respect for their family’s privacy.
