A man was today jailed for impersonating the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.
Christian Efe Oyovweyho also attempted to fraudulently obtain N300,000 from a lecturer in Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Shehu Galadanci.
The convict promised the don a nonexistent appointment in the Presidency.
Justice Z.B. Abubakar of a Federal High Court in Kano today convicted and sentenced the accused to eight years imprisonment.
The accused was arraigned by the EFCC on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and attempt to obtain under false pretence.
Oyovweyho’s began his journey to prison when Galadanci petitioned EFCC accusing him of attempting to obtain N300,000 from him, while posing as Adesina.
According to the petitioner, the convict, sometime in July 2016, sent him a text message claiming to be the Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity.
The convict claimed that the name of the professor had been shortlisted for an appointment in the presidency.
The convict, however, claimed to be negotiating a more juicy office for the don and asked him to pay N300,000 in order to facilitate the process.
He claimed he was pushing for the don to be appointed into one of Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Railway Corporation and Rural Electrification Agency.
Justice Abubakar sentenced Oyovweyho to four years imprisonment on each of the two-count charge.
The sentence is to run concurrently.
