Nigerian troops have uncovered a weapons procurement network in which a man currently held in a Lagos prison coordinated the purchase of arms in Ondo State for delivery to bandits in Zamfara.
According to military sources, the revelation came during operations carried out by troops under Operation Hadarin Daji.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives apprehended two men in Ondo, who were allegedly sent by the prison inmate to acquire the weapons.
The weapons were intended for use by armed groups operating in Zamfara State, which has long grappled with banditry and violent attacks.
The military did not disclose the identity of the inmate but confirmed that he remains in custody in Lagos.
Military authorities say investigations are ongoing into the prison-linked arms trafficking ring, and further arrests may follow.
