The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man, Francis Oladapo, for allegedly issuing fake number plates to motorists and motorcyclists in the state.
The command’s spokesman, Mr Femi Joseph, told journalists, while parading the suspect in Akure, today that he collected over N4,000 from each of his victims.
Joseph said that detectives arrested Oladapo after the command received information regarding his illegal act from the members of the public.
He said police were still on the trail of the suspect’s accomplices who escaped arrest.
“This illegal act no doubt must have depleted the revenues that should have accrued to the state government,” Joseph further disclosed.
He advised the members of public to only register their vehicles and motorcycles at the State Board of Internal Revenue or at the office of Federal Road Safety Corps.
The suspect told journalists that he was introduced to the illegal business two years ago by one of his fleeing accomplices.
