A man accused of impregnating his daughter in Ogun State has blamed the devil after he was arrested by the police.
Forty-five-year-old Julius Ochim was reported to the police by his daughter, who claimed that he had been having carnal knowledge of her for eight years after she lost her mother in 2009.
The police told NewsmakersNG that Ochim’s daughter reported the matter at Sagamu Police Station. She allegedly told officers that she had a baby girl for her father three years ago.
She also told the police that her father used to threaten her with ‘cultural implication’ of denying him sex.
Ogun State police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that upon the receipt of the report, the DPO Sagamu Division, CSP Aduroja Moses, led detectives to Ochim’s residence and promptly arrested him.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime but blamed it all on the devil’s handiwork. He confessed that he had been sleeping with the girl since the demise of his wife and that he started having problem with the girl when she started going out with another person whom she said she would like to marry,” Oyeyemi said, adding that Ochim confessed that he didn’t want his daughter to get married, so that he would continue having his way with her.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Ahmed Iliyasu has directed that the suspect is transferred to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution of the suspect.
